Bids for Murray County Cattlemen’s Association building total far more than budgeted

At a 9:30 a.m. bid opening during the Feb. 4 meeting, low bids for plumbing, concrete, electrical and building work for the Murray County Cattlemen’s Association building were read aloud and tallied to an estimated total of $250,157, well above the association’s $110,000 budget.
Individual low bids listed at the opening included: plumbing (Slayton Plumbing & Heating) $43,285; concrete (Huset Construction low bid) $42,072; electrical (Mears Electric low bid) $23,500; and building (Ankrum Cabinets & Construction low bid) $141,300. The Cattlemen’s Association representatives present were advised to review the bids and coordinate with the county’s Economic Development Authority (EDA) about funding alternatives.
No contract awards were made at the opening; the association and EDA will discuss next steps. The board did not amend the association’s budget during the meeting.
