Murray County board approves $138,393 in warrants, certifies habitat easement and hires deputy auditor

The Murray County Board of Commissioners met Feb. 18 in Slayton and approved routine county business, including claims and personnel actions.
The board approved claims and warrants numbered 176550 through 176620 totaling $138,393.46 across funds including the General Fund and Road & Bridge. The motion to approve the audit list and claims was moved by Jackie Meier and seconded by Loy Woelber and carried.
On environmental business, the board approved the county certification asked for by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service related to a proposed habitat easement of about 60 acres in Mason Township. The certification follows a procedural agreement with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and allows the easement to proceed to the Minnesota DNR Land Exchange Board for review. Mark Carlson moved the motion; Jackie Meier seconded it.
The board also approved the county’s annual 2024 feedlot report and authorized the board chair to sign the document. Roger Zins moved approval; Mark Carlson seconded.
In intergovernmental business, commissioners reviewed revisions to the RCRCA (Region Five) Joint Powers Agreement needed for the Cottonwood–Middle Minnesota Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan and related Watershed Based Implementation Funds applications. The board noted a membership-dues table that raises total dues to $90,000 for 2026 and delegated Commissioner Loy Woelber to sign the amended agreement. The motion was moved by Mark Carlson and seconded by Jackie Meier.
On personnel, the board hired Connie Wieneke as Chief Deputy Auditor-Treasurer, effective Feb. 24, 2025, at Grade 12, Step 1 ($31.41 per hour). Roger Zins moved to hire Wieneke; Mark Carlson seconded. The motion passed.
The meeting adjourned after committee reports. County Administrator Carolyn McDonald attested to the minutes; Board Chair Dennis Welgraven signed them.
