A resident raised questions about recent increases in ICE activity and whether the Hudson County Sheriff's Office cooperates with federal immigration enforcement.
Courtney Walker asked whether county sheriffs have formal or informal working relationships with ICE, whether ICE agents share county facilities during shifts, and whether the county has policies to protect schools, hospitals and parks if federal agents arrive. Undersheriff Conti answered on the record: when asked about a working relationship with ICE, he responded "No." He also said the Sheriff's Office does not share buildings with ICE agents and that "We don't have a policy" in place to provide special protections at county sites from federal agents.
Commissioners and the resident discussed the value of using this public forum for clarification and requested follow-up materials to examine policies adopted elsewhere.
Provenance: transcript public comment and Undersheriff Conti's responses recorded in SEG 043–046.
