Representatives of the Hudson County Youth Football Program told commissioners on Aug. 14 that rising program costs left the league short and requested county assistance for the 2025 season.
Vincent Johnson introduced the request and Petra Rodriguez, acting as the league treasurer, told the Board the league formally requests $23,000 to cover referee fees (about $20,300), championship trophies and other expenses. Rodriguez said board members had personally covered roughly $4,000–$5,000 to complete last season.
Chairman Romano and several commissioners urged the group's leaders to meet with county staff (Deputy Administrator David Drumeler and Parks/Grant staff) and referenced county personnel who help nonprofits apply for grants. Commissioner Robert Baselice and other members indicated they would support the league and requested a follow-up meeting to identify county or philanthropic funding sources.
