Resident urges council to consider traffic, light and noise impacts of planned Target project

During the community forum at the March 3 Chelsea City Council meeting, resident Denny Hodges of Pen Oak Drive addressed the council about a planned Target project near his home. Hodges said the site is close enough that, from the end of his driveway and across the railroad tracks, "you're there," and he expressed concerns about noise, light pollution and increased traffic, especially given ongoing Highway 47 construction in the area.
Hodges said he had spoken at a prior meeting about the project and that he remains worried about proximity and travel patterns. He described his recent experience trying to get to the council meeting from Walgreens at 4:40 p.m., saying it illustrated current traffic challenges and raising questions about how the additional shopping area would be handled.
Hodges urged the council to consider long-term planning and to think ahead two to three years about how the city will maintain infrastructure as the city grows. He closed by saying this would be his last comment about the Target project for now and thanked the council for their service.
The council did not take formal action in response to the comment during the meeting; no staff report or traffic study was presented on the record in response to the remarks.
