Buffalo County adopts Resolution 2025-39, transfers $2.2 million from inheritance fund to cover budget shortfalls

The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners on June 24 adopted Resolution 2025-39 to address department budget overages for the 2024–2025 fiscal year and approved related fund transfers.

The resolution directs transfers from existing county sources to cover shortfalls, including $25,000 to the County Court budget, $1,000 to Institutions, $52,000 to Building and Grounds and $135,000 to the Jail, with those amounts to be taken from the General Miscellaneous budget. In a separate approved action the board transferred $325,000 from the Inheritance Fund to the General Fund, $1,800,000 to the Road Fund and $75,000 to the Weed District Fund to provide additional budget support.

Commissioner Bill Maendele moved the resolution, and Commissioner Timothy Higgins seconded; the motion passed by roll call (ayes: Higgins, Maendele, Klein, Kouba and Morrow; absent: Loeffelholz and Lynch).

County Clerk Heather Christensen read the resolution and transfer details into the record. The board did not specify additional funding sources beyond the transfers recorded in the session.

Votes at a glance from the June 24 meeting: the budget resolution and the inheritance-fund transfers each passed on roll call with five ayes and two absent members. The board scheduled further fiscal year close-out actions as part of normal year-end procedures.
