Planning commission approves two CUPs, forwards recommendations to supervisors; Lavender Solar deferred

The Charlotte County Planning Commission on June 20 recommended the Board of Supervisors approve two conditional use permits and took no final action on a third contested application.
The Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of Samuel S. Hostetler’s conditional use permit for a commercial wood processing operation on Tax Parcel #15‑A‑37C, finding the proposal supported the comprehensive plan, would diversify the economy and grow the tax base, and that impacts could be mitigated through conditions recommended by staff.
The Commission also voted unanimously to recommend approval of Tobias N. Hertzler’s conditional use permit for a retail store on Tax Parcel #15‑A‑8F, with staff recommending an additional condition requiring the applicant to vacate the internal lot line between two parcels if necessary to meet a 50‑foot setback.
On Lavender Solar’s 5‑megawatt CUP, after extensive public comment and a tie vote on a motion to recommend approval, the Commission unanimously voted to defer its recommendation to the Board of Supervisors until the Commission’s July 18 meeting so staff, the developer and landowners can finalize boundary and ingress/egress conditions before a recommendation is forwarded.
The Planning Commission’s formal recommendations and the record of votes will be transmitted to the Board of Supervisors for consideration at a future meeting.
