Charlotte County Planning Commission elects 2025 officers, adopts rules and schedule

At its Jan. 21 meeting the Charlotte County Planning Commission elected James Benn chair, Andrew Carwile first vice-chair and Patrick Andrews second vice-chair for 2025, appointed Monica Elder secretary, adopted Robert’s Rules for Small Groups and set a monthly meeting schedule.
James Benn was elected chair of the Charlotte County Planning Commission on Jan. 21, 2025, after Patrick Andrews nominated him and no other nominations were made. The commission also elected Andrew Carwile first vice-chair and Patrick Andrews second vice-chair and appointed Monica Elder as secretary on motions that carried unanimously.
The actions were part of the meeting’s organizational business. Commissioners voted to adopt Robert’s Rules of Order for Small Groups, amended to require a second for all motions and allowing the chair discretion to solicit limited public input during agenda items. They also set the regular meeting date as the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Charlotte County Administration Office and adopted the remote participation policy.
The procedural votes were unanimous among those present. Commissioners approved the agenda and the Dec. 19 meeting minutes at the start of the meeting.
The commission’s administrative steps conclude routine organization for the year and set deadlines and procedures staff will follow; staff also reminded commissioners to file statements of real estate holdings. The meeting then moved to a public hearing on a zoning amendment for battery energy storage systems.
