Hancock County board approves $5,559,094 provisional budget; sets display and vote dates

Chair Wayne Bollin called a special Hancock County finance meeting to order at 8:24 p.m. on Oct. 21 in the county courthouse in Carthage. The board reviewed proposed budget line items and the levy before taking formal action.
The board approved a provisional budget of $5,559,094 after a motion from Committee member Harry Douglas and a second from Committee member Dennis Castlebury. A roll-call vote showed all members present voting yes, and the motion carried.
The provisional budget will be placed on public display for 15 days as required before a full-board vote. Justin Greeley was recorded as the person who will email three draft ordinances—the budget ordinance, the appropriations ordinance and the levy ordinance—to the board for circulation and posting. The board scheduled a special meeting for Oct. 30 to consider the provisional budget and set a full-board vote for Nov. 18.
Committee member Steve Lucie moved to recess the meeting until Nov. 13; Joe Boyles seconded. All members present voted in favor, and the meeting adjourned at 9:31 p.m.
The actions taken were procedural steps toward formal adoption: provisional approval, public posting for the statutorily required period, and scheduling of subsequent votes. The minutes do not record line-by-line changes to the budget or objections from individual members.
