Marquette County Extension committee approves agenda, hears staffing, contract and fair updates

The Marquette County Extension Education Committee met Oct. 14, 2025, in the County Board Room in Montello and approved its agenda and the August minutes before hearing program and administrative updates.
Area Extension Director Pat Wagner told the committee the University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension is working on a 5% reduction affecting program operations; Wagner asked members to review an attached 136 contract and a memorandum of understanding. The committee directed County Administrator Ron Barger to sign the 136 contract and the MOU after the county’s 2026 budget is approved. Barger raised two items in the contract for future discussion; Wagner said individual counties may negotiate specific contract language.
Educators filed written reports and summarized current programming. Christa VanTreeck, 4‑H Youth Development Educator, announced that Haddie Pfile has started as an AmeriCorps member this month; VanTreeck said Pfile’s work will align with the Youth Apprenticeship Program. Written reports from Hannah Zellmer (Human Development and Relationships Educator), VanTreeck and Laci Monroe (FoodWIse Nutrition Coordinator) were placed on file.
John Bennett gave the Fair Committee report, confirming the 2026 Marquette County Fair dates as July 15–19. Bennett said the fair board has not secured a carnival vendor, but that a bull‑riding contract is signed for Saturday and tractor pulls are planned for Thursday and Friday nights. He added that boat and camper storage completed earlier this fall held 66 units. Bennett noted vacant fair‑board positions and said he will upload the annual financial report to SharePoint after the fair board’s Oct. 16 annual meeting.
The committee reviewed vouchers and set its next meeting for Dec. 9, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Dennis Fenner declared the meeting adjourned.
