Health department reports rabies, radon and housing contacts; inspections continue in January

The Marquette County Health Department reported routine but notable environmental health activity at the Board of Health meeting on Feb. 4, 2025, including rabies‑program contacts, radon testing demand and multiple housing complaints, an Environmental Specialist told the board.
Jessica Jungenberg presented December and January summaries. December included nine rabies‑program contacts (three quarantine orders, one released), one animal specimen submitted (negative), three well water tests, one radon testing kit noted, and 16 housing contacts that included plumbing issues, mold concerns and a condemned‑home placard. January included eight rabies contacts (one quarantine order, two released), three animal specimens (all negative), one well water test, 21 radon testing kits sold with 12 radon contacts, 18 kennel contacts and 20 housing contacts involving reports of no heat or running water and garbage at a property.
Jungenberg also reported agent‑status inspection activity: December had one Marquette County inspection and one re‑inspection (with additional inspections in Waushara County), while January included nine Marquette County inspections, six Waushara County inspections and seven trainings attended by staff.
The board received a voucher of expenses for January 2025 for review; administrative staff did not provide a separate budget report at the meeting. No members of the public spoke during citizen comment.
Board members noted the new EPA lead standards take effect Jan. 13, 2025; the transcript records the standard's effective date but does not include further departmental action tied specifically to lead contacts at this meeting.
