On Aug. 5 the Marquette County Board of Health approved the proposed 2026 Health Department budget as presented by Health Officer Jayme Sopha and authorized staff to forward it to County Administrator Ron Barger for review and onward to the county Executive and Finance committees.
Sopha explained differences between the 2025 and proposed 2026 budgets and cited added revenue streams (RIC and TNC programs), the inclusion of payroll actuals for recently hired environmental health staff and adjustments in salary allocations across calendar years. Gary Sorenson moved to approve the budget to be forwarded for further review; Dave Benson seconded the motion and the minutes state the motion "carried." The transcript records the motion and its passage but does not include vote totals or a roll-call.
The board received the motion as an approval to advance the budget through the county review process; no additional budget report was presented by administration during the meeting.
