Chief Deputy Scott Johnston told the Marquette County Judicial & Public Safety Committee on Feb. 3 that the county’s dispatch center renovation is nearly complete and that Baycom is continuing installations. Johnston reported the jail population at 45 inmates and said a water‑line break the previous night released roughly 1,000 gallons into the jail drains.
Emergency Management Director Lt. Aaron Williams said Marquette County Emergency Management will host weather‑spotting training on April 13 (6–8 p.m.) and is coordinating a multi‑agency disaster training with the Fire Association, EMS and Sheriff’s Office. Williams and Acting Chairperson Chuck Bornhoeft discussed how the county maintains and communicates a list of warming/cooling centers (often public facilities such as libraries and town halls) and noted the Public Safety Room has been used for short‑term sheltering during storms. Captain Mike Kowalski added that the Salvation Army may provide hotel vouchers in some circumstances.
Johnston also reported that evidence from the City of Montello has been received by the county. Captain Kowalski said City parking ordinances require a lengthy follow‑up process with a portion returned to the state and stated the city had not completed required follow‑through; the committee discussed what aspects of 'administration' the county contract covers and what costs the county might absorb to resolve the issue. No formal directive or contract amendment was adopted at the meeting.
