Hudson County signals intent to join Bergen in regional medical examiner upgrade

Hudson County officials told commissioners on Nov. 24 that the county is preparing to pursue a shared Medical Examiner's Office with Bergen and Passaic counties.
The clerk read a resolution approving a memorandum of understanding for shared services. County counsel and Ms. Antun told the caucus that Bergen County had pursued a shared-services study and gone out to bid to upgrade Bergen's facility to accommodate Hudson and Passaic caseloads. "Bergen County has gone out to bid, and they are looking to award a contract so that they can enhance their facility to accommodate Hudson and Bergen...we believe that we'll get an equal or better product working with Bergen County," Ms. Antun said.
Officials said Hudson is also negotiating to leave its current Northern Region arrangement (with Newark) so it can join the Bergen-led effort; Bergen requested assurances that Hudson and Passaic would proceed before Bergen incurs certain costs. County counsel said the MOU and planned shared services will be put forward for formal action.
