Hudson County tweaks ARPA food‑security awards, reduces proposed cut to Hunger Free Unity

Hudson County officials on Oct. 23 told Commissioners they are reallocating some American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to support additional food distributions by community providers.
Deputy County Administrator David Drumeler said two agenda replacements relate to ARPA‑funded food security initiatives. Darice Toon, identified in the transcript as DIRECTOR TOON, told the Board a provider had requested a reduction of its award but, after further discussions and plans to collaborate with other providers, the county reduced the planned cut so the agency can continue and expand distributions.
Toon told the Board that the organization originally faced a proposed reduction of $100,000 but the county will instead reduce that organization’s award by $34,000 so it can retain additional funds to add distribution sites and collaborate with Hunger Free Unity in the Community and the Coalition for Food. She also said the SALT Foundation requested additional funds and the county will provide supplemental money from unallocated ARPA funds.
County staff said a schedule for additional distributions will be published and shared with Family Services and Commissioners. The amendments were presented as replacements to two agenda items; no vote detail beyond the consent agenda approval was discussed for these replacements in the meeting record.
