Belgrade staff to advertise Ward 1 vacancy, interview finalists before January appointment

Staff outlined the process the council has used for recent appointments and recommended following the same pattern for filling the Ward 1 vacancy.
Under the proposal staff will advertise the Ward 1 opening, accept applications, provide the mayor-elect with candidate materials to shortlist three or four finalists, invite finalists to a workshop interview and then have the mayor-elect make a recommendation that the council would ratify at its first January meeting so the new member can be seated with the incoming council.
Staff noted applicants must reside in Ward 1 and said interviews could be scheduled before Thanksgiving to permit a January appointment. Council members did not direct an alternative process and asked staff to proceed with advertising and scheduling.
