Wells County council will fully fund one prosecutor position and split funding for a second

The Wells County Council unanimously approved a funding plan for two positions in the Prosecuting Attorney’s office during its Aug. 20 budget session.
The Prosecuting Attorney had proposed moving two IV-D employees to be paid fully from the General Fund. Council member Brandon Harnish initially moved to fully fund both positions but withdrew the motion when it received no second. Council member Vicki Andrews then moved — and Harnish seconded — to fund one full salary from the General Fund and to fund the second position with half the salary from the General Fund and half from the IV-D Incentive fund. That motion carried 7-0.
Council also cut three line items in the Prosecuting Attorney general fund: Truck maintenance ($500 to $0), vehicle fuel ($3,000 to $0), and vehicle ($4,500 to $0). Council members said they want firmer control over vehicle purchases across departments. A requested stipend increase for two of the prosecutor’s employees (from $750 to $2,500 annually) was not granted.
The action preserves one fully county-funded position while maintaining partial IV-D funding for the second, per the council’s unanimous decision.
