Wells County council approves full-time environmental health position after 4-2 vote

The Wells County Council approved a full-time Environmental Health position for 2025 at an annual wage of $37,500 after a split vote during its Aug. 20 budget session.
The motion to create the position was made by Council member Steve Huggins and seconded by Brian Lambert. The motion carried 4-2, with Council members Brandon Harnish and Vicki Andrews recorded as voting no. No adjustments were made to the Local Public Health Services fund, the Local Health Maintenance fund, or the Local Health Department Trust Account fund.
Council discussed the position while reviewing the Health budget line-by-line and considered whether additional resources would be needed should the position be approved. The decision moves the position forward in the draft 2025 budget; any further resource needs would be discussed if the position is implemented.
The council proceeded to review other departmental budgets after the vote.
