Fairfield County Transit gets new vehicles, software and staffing; county assisting water upgrades for Vantage Data Center

Economic & Workforce Development Director Rick Szabrak and Transit Director Aaron Kennedy reported a package of improvements to Fairfield County Transit intended to improve rider service and operational efficiency. The updates include new bus stop signs, new vehicles, refreshed branding, a new scheduling and dispatch software platform, and the addition of tablets on each vehicle to give drivers real‑time updates.
Kennedy said Transit has increased full‑time operator headcount and hired an operations manager to support the larger fleet and new technology. Szabrak said workforce training and higher enrollment in pre‑apprenticeship programs are supporting those staffing changes.
Separately, Szabrak and Utilities Director Tony Vogel discussed the Vantage Data Center project in Millersport. Szabrak noted planned water system improvements tied to the project; Vogel said Utilities is assisting with those upgrades and that the facility's anticipated water usage will be minimal. No permit or final water‑use figures were provided at the roundtable.
