Murray County commissioners approve grants, policy updates and local projects in Sept. 2 meeting

The Murray County Board of Commissioners completed a series of routine but consequential actions at its Sept. 2 meeting, approving payments, contracts, grant applications and policy updates.
The board approved payment of Murray County Drainage Authority bills totaling $25,238 covering multiple ditch and drainage districts. Commissioners authorized submission of a Conservation Partners Legacy Grant application to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for ‘‘Infected Tree Replacement’’ with a maximum grant ceiling of $75,000 and a required 10% local match; the board authorized up to $7,500 to be funded from parks/fairgrounds/general budgets and allowed County Administrator Carolyn McDonald to sign the application.
Other actions included approving an amendment to the county tax abatement policy (updates recommended by the Minnesota Department of Revenue), approving nine 2025 merged assessor contracts, and moving forward with an updated County Road Safety Plan (CRSP) with a total cost of $113,628.71 and a county local match of $22,725.74 (MnDOT to cover 80%). The board approved HR Director Sharon Giese’s enrollment in the AMC HR Technical Assistance Program at an annual cost of $5,500. Commissioners set a public hearing for Sept. 16, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. to take input on the DNR’s repeal of the statewide shotgun‑only zone effective Jan. 1, 2026. The board also approved updated Board Operating Rules covering remote attendance under Minn. Stat. § 13D.02.
