Murray County approves MnDOT agreement to pursue federal funds for County Road Safety Plan

The Murray County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 23 approved an agency agreement with the Minnesota Department of Transportation to allow MnDOT to act as agent in securing federal funds to prepare a County Road Safety Plan.
Randy Groves presented the agreement and Resolution 2025-09-25-02, stating the county’s portion of consulting fees would be approximately $22,725.74 and federal funds obtained would be about $90,902.97. Groves said a formal safety plan will help the county identify target improvements—such as alignment changes, signage, striping and lighting at intersections—and is typically required to access federal safety funds.
Commissioner Roger Zins moved to adopt the resolution; Commissioner Loy Woelber seconded and the motion passed. The board packet included the resolution and the agreement.
During the same agenda sequence staff updated commissioners on the Murray County dike project, reporting continued progress and noting a potential Oct. 13 completion date but acknowledging work could extend into spring to allow settlement. Commissioners were advised to schedule the annual road tour ordinarily held in October.
The board did not record a roll-call breakdown in the minutes for this item beyond noting the motion passed.
