Murray County awards $84,536 in housing aid to Rebuilding Together Minnesota

On Sept. 16 the Murray County Board of Commissioners approved directing half of the county's Statewide Affordable Housing Aid (SAHA) allotment to Rebuilding Together Minnesota.
Emily Ostercamp of Rebuilding Together Minnesota presented the organization's whole-home repair model, which targets low-income homeowners who are seniors, people with disabilities, families with children and veterans. Ostercamp said the group follows a 25-point checklist from the Center for Healthy Housing to ensure homes are safe, dry and energy efficient. Murray County received $169,072 in SAHA between 2023 and 2024; the board approved allotting 50% of the county's SAHA share—$84,536—to Rebuilding Together Minnesota. Two projects in Fulda are already scheduled and additional projects are planned pending outreach to Slayton-area community leaders.
Board discussion noted that Rebuilding Together Minnesota focuses on whole-home repairs rather than single-item fixes and that the organization coordinates homeowner assessments before work begins. The vote to allot funds carried during the regular session.
