Murray County Medical Center reports staff additions, selects architect for X-ray project and discloses monthly operating loss

Murray County Medical Center presented staffing updates, upcoming capital work and a financial report at the Nov. 4 county board meeting.
Luke Schryvers delivered the report, saying Elizabeth Hurley, a physical therapist, began in early October as a traveling therapist who will rotate among Slayton, Tracy and Westbrook sites for up to 13 weeks. He also said David Majewski, PA, has joined the emergency department in a casual role to help cover additional ER shifts.
On capital projects, Schryvers said MCMC selected LEO A DALY as architect and designer for a growth X-ray unit; the firm is expected to complete design work in about four months and the project will then be readied for bidding. Schryvers said MCMC’s in‑house MRI service agreement ends at the end of 2025 and the hospital is exploring mobile MRI options that could provide service a few days per week while staff evaluate long‑term needs.
Financial highlights presented to the board showed the hospital’s cash position decreased by about $93,400, leaving total cash available of $9,953,859. Net patient receivables that the hospital expects to collect were reported at $2,883,892 (48.8% of gross receivables); accounts receivable days increased to 74 days (goal under 50). For September, gross revenue was $2,606,060, and the hospital recorded a net loss for the month of $84,098 and a year‑to‑date net loss of $292,292. Schryvers noted the hospital reached benchmarks on four of six Wellvana ACO measures and that Murray County’s share of Medicare shared savings would be $23,351.13.
Schryvers described recent quality and community outreach events: a Sanford simulation training for staff and a Sanford Heart & Vascular screening day. He encouraged continued community participation in screening opportunities.
Board discussion focused on operational continuity and the hospital’s plans to monitor service-line options, but no board action was required beyond receiving the report. The board recorded appreciation for training and outreach partnerships and the status update on capital planning and finances.
