Murray County approves 8.13% levy increase and adopts 2026 budget

The Murray County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Dec. 30 to set the countys 2026 final levy and adopt the 2026 budget. The board approved an 8.13% overall levy increase, with a net levy after program aid of $10,024,548.
Board Chair Dennis Welgraven presided over the meeting as commissioners approved Resolution 2025-12-30-07 setting the levy. Commissioner Jackie Meier presented the resolution and the board then moved to the final budget resolution, adopted as Resolution 2025-12-30-08.
County staff provided a redlined budget document to reflect a newly approved full-time Economic Development and Marketing Manager position; the change was incorporated into the final document the board placed on file. The countys combined governmental funds revenues are shown as $28,830,265 in the budget tables presented at the meeting.
The approved budget tables show revenue from taxes, special assessments, intergovernmental sources and fees across funds and include planned changes to fund balances. County staff reported a planned overall change to fund balance across funds of $124,907. Heidi Winter, a county staff member who provided budget materials and clarifications, noted the redlined updates reflected board direction and budgeted staffing changes.
The board approved the levy and budget by voice vote; all members present voted for adoption. The county auditor-treasurers office will maintain the official budget document on file and the resolutions become the countys adopted levy and budget for 2026.
