Facing municipal staffing shortages in neighboring cities, the Murray County Board on Jan. 20 approved multiple public-safety agreements and equipment purchases.
The board authorized an emergency on‑call contract with the City of Slayton to provide policing support while that city addresses staffing shortfalls; the City of Slayton was expected to approve the agreement later that evening. Separately, the board approved a contract to provide 42 days of police services to the City of Fulda for $20,000 for 2026.
Commissioners also approved payment of Buffalo Ridge Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force per‑capita funding for 2026 in the amount of $36,805.50, continuing the county's share of a multi‑county task force that also includes Rock, Lincoln and Pipestone Counties and the cities of Slayton, Fulda and Tyler.
Finally, staff reported a price reduction on a previously reviewed portable radio. The board approved purchase of a Motorola APX 6000 from DSC Communications for $4,960.35.
Each motion passed during the meeting; commissioners discussed workforce implications for municipal police forces and recurring task-force funding beyond the current two‑year projection.
