Murray County approves used light tower, adopts updated Hazard Mitigation Plan; generator replacements to be priced

SLAYTON, Minn. — Murray County commissioners on Jan. 27 approved a $10,499 purchase of a used 2022 Allmand GR Series light tower for Emergency Management, adopted an updated county Hazard Mitigation Plan and requested replacement quotes for aging portable generators before declaring any units surplus.
Emergency Management told the board the purchased tower has about 300 operating hours and is equipped with 30-amp breakers useful for inflatable equipment; staff said the county currently borrows towers from neighboring jurisdictions to meet demand. The board approved the purchase as a cost-saving alternative to a new tower (staff estimated a new unit at about $23,000).
Commissioners also approved Resolution 2026-01-27-01 adopting the updated Hazard Mitigation Plan developed with University of Minnesota U-Spatial. The plan update preserves local eligibility for mitigation funding and positions cities and the county to pursue mitigation projects going forward.
On portable generators, staff reported four units are at end of life and two cannot be serviced because parts are unavailable. The board asked staff to gather replacement quotes before moving to declare any units surplus.
