Murray County reviews MPCA feedlot delegation work plan; county must inspect 7% of feedlots annually

Jon Bloomendahl reviewed the 2026–2027 Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Delegation Agreement Work Plan with the board on Jan. 20, describing inspection and reporting requirements the county must meet under current rules.
Bloomendahl told commissioners Murray County currently has 425 registered feedlots. Under MPCA rules the county must inspect a randomly selected 7% of registered feedlots each year and verify registration of all feedlots once every four years. The county receives reimbursement for inspections; Bloomendahl said the current per‑feedlot reimbursement is approximately $133.
Bloomendahl also said he will prepare the annual report for the previous year and submit it to the MPCA; that report requires a signature. The board discussed scheduling of related county events (electronic recycling in April and a pesticide collection in late summer) and noted the county will begin the next four‑year verification cycle soon.
No formal board signature was required for the two‑year plan because MPCA amended the signature requirement; Bloomendahl said the upcoming annual report will require a signature when completed.
