Buffalo County re-elects Sherry Morrow chair, names Bill Maendele vice chair and finalizes committee assignments

The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners held its reorganization meeting on Jan. 14, 2025, and unanimously elected Sherry L. Morrow as chair and Bill Maendele as vice chair for 2025. County Clerk Heather A. Christensen called the meeting to order and conducted the votes.
The leadership votes set the board’s chair and vice chair for the year and were followed by a series of administrative approvals. The board approved an official list of county depositories and authorized Buffalo County Treasurer Brenda Rohrich to invest county funds at those institutions. The approved depositories include Cornerstone Bank, Exchange Bank, Farmers & Merchants Bank, First National Bank of Omaha, Five Points Bank, Heartland Bank, NFIT/Union Bank (NPAIT), NebraskaLand Bank, Town & Country Bank, Wells Fargo, Bruner State Bank, Pinnacle Bank and FirsTier Bank.
The appointments set committee leadership and representation for the coming year. Chairperson Morrow and other commissioners were assigned to outside boards and internal committees, including representation on the Buffalo County Economic Development Council, Region III Governing Board and Zoning & Floodplain Committee; committee chairs were identified in the meeting record. The board also designated The Kearney Hub and the Buffalo County website as the county’s legal newspaper/publication outlets and approved agency appointment lists.
The meeting record shows the board also approved routine administrative business during the session, including an amended minute from the Dec. 23, 2024 meeting, ratification of payroll claims and early claims processed by the County Clerk, and several reappointments of county officials for 2025 (including John Maul as Highway Superintendent and Bret Stubbs as Weed Superintendent). A letter of support for the Buffalo County Economic Development Council was also approved.
The board adjourned the reorganization portion of the meeting and recessed into other agenda items; the next regular meeting was scheduled for Jan. 28, 2025 at 9:00 A.M.
