The Charlotte County Electoral Board met at the Registrar’s Office on Jan. 8, 2020 and approved the minutes of its Dec. 4, 2019 meeting. Vice‑Chair Lawrence Clark moved to approve the minutes and Secretary Robert Bradner seconded; the board voted unanimously to accept them.
Ms. Lambert reported there has been no notice from the state office about re‑certification of the new voting equipment. She told the board the office could use the existing computers running Windows 7 for the March election if the machines do not malfunction, but noted that Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 7 after this month and the county would be unable to support machines that fail. The board also recorded that the state office had not issued guidance on early voting for the March and June elections.
The board discussed staffing follow‑up on the Assistant Registrar position. There has been no response from County Administrator Mr. Witt to a letter sent in December; the minutes state the board plans to approach Mr. Witt after that afternoon’s county Board of Supervisors meeting to pursue the matter.
Ms. Lambert reported the office completed a security survey with assistance from Bret Arbogast, identified in the minutes as an IT expert with the School Board; Arbogast volunteered his services and the state office provided him temporary access to the information he needed to complete the survey.
On a motion by Secretary Robert Bradner, seconded by Vice‑Chair Lawrence Clark, the Board voted to expend up to $300 to purchase a monitor and mount for the training rooms; county maintenance will install the monitor. The motion passed without dissent.
Ms. Lambert announced that redistricting will begin this year and reminded the Board that county agency budgets are due Feb. 14. The Board scheduled a budget session to follow its regular meeting on Feb. 5, 2020.
The chair declared the meeting adjourned after a motion by Secretary Bradner, seconded by Vice‑Chair Clark; the motion passed without dissent. The minutes are signed by Glenwood Foster (Chair), Lawrence Clark (Vice‑Chair) and Robert Bradner (Secretary).
