Hancock County Board approves $60,000 purchase of Airport Industrial Park parcel after public hearing

Hancock County’s Board of Supervisors voted Feb. 23 to purchase a parcel in the Airport Industrial Park for $60,000 after a public hearing and unanimous vote.
On motion by Supervisor Gary Rayhons, seconded by Supervisor Florence (Sis) Greiman, the Board adopted Resolution No. 2026-011 approving purchase of Parcel B, Lot 5, Airport Industrial Park Second Addition (Plat of Survey #26-0208) from Nathan and Kymberly Mayland. The resolution states the county complied with the notice and hearing requirements of Iowa Code section 331.361 and that the property will be conveyed by warranty deed at closing.
The hearing included questions from public attendee Bob Kern about exact property lines, plans for existing sheds on the site and whether a worker facility would be built. Engineer Jeremy Purvis said he had identified the property lines and that any new building would follow plans similar to recent work in Winnebago County. Purvis told the Board that water and sewer are available at the site and that other sheds would be addressed "one at a time" as funding allows. Kern asked whether a sprinkler system would be required; Purvis said sprinklers are required for buildings over 5,000 square feet.
Supervisor Rayhons said the location could improve the county’s ability to draw workers and noted potential resale value of other properties. There were no written public comments filed with the Auditor’s Office. The Board’s motion to adopt the resolution carried unanimously with Supervisors Greiman, Rayhons and Osmund (Bud) Jermeland voting "Aye."
The resolution describes the tract as part of Lot Five (5), Airport Industrial Park Second Addition and references Plat of Survey #26-0208 filed Feb. 6, 2026 in the Hancock County Recorder’s office. The next procedural step listed in the resolution is conveyance by warranty deed at closing.
The Board took the vote during its adjourned session in Garner; Auditor Michelle K. Eisenman and Engineer Jeremy Purvis were present for the hearing.
