Parks director outlines pump track, dog park, splash-park work and new forestry program

Jordan Green, director of the Belgrade Regional Parks, Trails and Recreation District, briefed the council on several parks projects and programs under way.

Green said the Mayfair Meadows pump track project is progressing with meetings between city staff and the American Ramp Company; donated architectural and civil design work has helped move the project toward construction. He also reported the parks board accepted donor‑driven requirements for a dog park at Henson Park and that the city received a first draft of the site plan for review.

Smaller but immediate projects include splash‑park readiness for the 2026 season (painting, drain‑pan replacement and wastewater connections), foul‑pole replacements and irrigation work at Lions Park fields, and signage and scoreboard upgrades. Green said the parks department will coordinate with Belgrade Youth Baseball and the school district to minimize disruption.

Green also described the city’s new forestry program and said Joe Vredenberg started March 1 as the city forester; staff are developing a right‑of‑way street‑tree guide, a GIS‑integrated inventory and community outreach (pruning classes and an Arbor Day planting in coordination with the Montana Urban and Community Forestry Association). He noted the city is pursuing Tree City recognition for next year.

Green said staff will continue outreach to vendors and volunteers for the Belgrade Farmers Market and to finalize the recreation schedule and bands for summer events. No council action was required at the workshop.
