Cottonwood County approves hires, transfers and new Joint Airport Zoning Board appointments

At its Feb. 17 meeting the Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners approved several personnel and administrative actions, authorized a small procurement for law enforcement equipment, and created a Joint Airport Zoning Board.
County Coordinator Kelly Thongvivong reported interviews for a Buildings and Grounds Worker and the board unanimously approved hiring Anthony Fauglid as a full-time Buildings and Grounds Worker at Range 9, Step 6 ($28.29 per hour), effective March 9, 2026. The board also approved an internal transfer moving James Rosenkranz from part‑time to full‑time Jailer/Dispatcher at the same rate, effective March 9. Commissioners authorized advertising for seven seasonal Public Works positions for the 2026 summer season and advertising for a part‑time Landfill Scale Operator.
Sheriff Jason Purrington presented a state quote from Alpha Wireless and the board approved purchasing two APX6500 mobile radios to outfit two squad cars being replaced in 2026; the cost is $10,491.60. Thongvivong also presented a County Attorney–reviewed resolution to create a Joint Airport Zoning Board; the board adopted Resolution 26-02-17A and appointed Commissioners Wayne Maras and Kevin Stevens as the county’s representatives.
Thongvivong gave a brief update on Paycom meetings and work with Highway staff. The board recessed midmorning and reconvened at the Public Works Department for an afternoon presentation on railroad crossing options.
