Brooke County Commission approves personnel moves, ambulance engine replacement and generator bid

Thomas R. Diserio, commissioner, moved and Stacey Wise, commissioner, seconded approval of the June 18, 2024 minutes; the motion passed unanimously. The commission then approved a series of personnel items: it accepted a letter from Tonda Taylor formally retiring effective July 31, 2024; it approved hiring Becky Isinghood as a full-time employee pending background and drug testing with a start date of July 1, 2024 at Tier 1 pay ($39,520.00 annually, $19.00 per hour); and it accepted the resignation of Frank Lucero from the Address Coordinator position. Commissioners tabled — by unanimous vote — a request from Christina White, 911 Director, to combine the Address Coordinator position and the CAD Administrator (Bill Elcessor) into a single role; the commission recorded the item for later consideration. The board likewise unanimously tabled an email from Sheriff Beatty concerning hiring Michael Nickerson as a certified deputy with a July 16, 2024 start date; commissioners asked for a meeting with the sheriff and Chief Mills to discuss whether the proposed salary and benefits were included in the 2024–25 sheriff's budget before moving forward.
On equipment and procurement, the commission approved an EMS request to replace the engine in ambulance 705 at a cost of $9,709.00 to Team Ford Wellsburg. Andrew J. Thomas, president of the commission, expressed concern about the frequency of engine replacements in newer vehicles. The commission also approved the lone generator bid from Core 24 for $39,968.00 after Mike Fink, head of maintenance, confirmed the bid met the specifications.
