Planning Commission Chair Terrance Bell told the Ferron City Planning and Zoning work session on Jan. 6 that the commission should prioritize updates to business licenses, an ATV/OTV ordinance, a noise ordinance, annexation ordinances and nuisance ordinances, and should find ways to improve enforcement of city rules.
Bell said Ferron should also examine whether the city can designate or locate a suitable industrial zone. "He was approached for possibly a propane storage facility," the session record says, and Bell asked whether current zoning would allow such a business, signaling the commission may review industrial zoning allowances.
Commissioners identified a short list of ordinance topics to follow up on, including annexation rules and accessory dwelling units (ADUs). The group also listed ATV/OTV and noise rules for revision. The minutes show the commission agreed to prioritize those items for the 2026 calendar year but did not adopt any formal ordinance changes at the meeting.
Commissioner Brad Clausen raised concerns about the new Ferron City Agricultural Center as the project nears completion, asking how late events would be allowed, and how parking and traffic congestion would be managed. Clausen said those operational questions should be brought to the City Council for discussion as the center’s opening approaches.
No formal votes on ordinance changes or zoning designations were taken during the work session. Council Member and Commissioner Vance Brown moved to adjourn; Commissioner Brad Clausen seconded. A roll-call vote recorded the members present as voting in favor and the motion carried.
The commission recorded the meeting attendance and adjourned; staff and commissioners indicated the ordinance topics and Agricultural Center operations would be addressed in later meetings or before the City Council as appropriate.
