CDS fund tightens as director salary cost-sharing and a $250,000 grant are discussed

Zack DeHaven, an agency official for Community Development Services, told the Board of Commissioners the CDS fund balance has decreased as permit fees fell and staff costs rose. He said the director's salary will be partially (15%) charged to the General Fund, a return to prior practice, and that the director has secured a $250,000 grant that can be used for staff salaries.
DeHaven presented the REET II staff report alongside the CDS update and discussed historical uses and current trends. Chairman Cory Wright asked staff to explore Operations & Maintenance uses for the REET II fund in 2027 and requested a Parks & Recreation projects deep dive at a future study session. The BOCC acknowledged the report and indicated that a budget amendment will formalize the direction for REET II usage.
The board did not take action on the CDS fund at this session; members asked staff to reflect the salary-cost-sharing and grant in the upcoming budget amendment and to return with more detail on REET II priorities.
