County Attorney Coleman R. Bryant told Chesterfield County Council on Feb. 17 that council members and staff should begin identifying the county's financial needs so those needs can be effectively advocated for at state and federal levels. Bryant framed the discussion as preparatory: identifying priorities now will enable targeted advocacy during upcoming legislative sessions.
Council Member Eddie Kirkley responded favorably and proposed that council members and staff compile projects and form a committee to contact state and federal legislators. Kirkley said he supported increasing the county's efforts toward legislative advocacy.
No formal committee was appointed at the briefing and no motions to allocate funds for lobbying or contract support were recorded; Bryant's remarks were presented for council consideration and planning.
