Fire Chief Todd Robinson recommended that Fountain Green designate zero acres as Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) within city limits and proceed with the administrative steps needed to adopt the appropriate code.
Robinson told the council that the vegetation within the city is primarily low brush and that WUI requirements typically apply to new construction in higher-risk zones. He said established homes would not be affected by designating no WUI acreage inside the city and noted that areas outside city limits remain outside municipal jurisdiction unless annexed.
Next steps Robinson outlined: redraw the WUI map to reflect no designated interface areas within Fountain Green; prepare an ordinance adopting the relevant WUI code using a state-provided template; submit the ordinance and map to Planning & Zoning for a public hearing; and, after adoption, forward signed documentation to the county fire warden. The department will continue proactive mitigation such as reducing grasses and weeds.
The council thanked Chief Robinson for the report and did not take immediate action beyond directing staff to proceed with map and ordinance preparation.
