The Fountain Green City Council unanimously ratified an emergency $10,600 repair to the city-owned theater and dance hall at its Jan. 22 meeting after Mayor Willard Wood said large sections of exterior stucco fell and interior water damage required additional repairs.
The mayor told the council he authorized the work immediately because weather and contractor availability made it practical to complete a long-lasting repair rather than a temporary patch. The selected repair used a more durable material that carries a 15-year guarantee. A private donor covered half the cost, leaving the city liable for $5,300.
“Given the contractor availability and the risk of further damage, I authorized repairs to protect the building,” Mayor Willard Wood said during the meeting.
Vaughn Jacobsen moved to ratify the emergency expenditure and to accept the donation; Kim Johnson seconded. The motion passed on a unanimous roll call: Kerry Farnsworth — Yes; Vaughn Jacobsen — Yes; Rich Walker — Yes; Kim Johnson — Yes; Jacob Littlefield — Yes.
The ratification formalizes the mayoral emergency authorization and documents the city’s acceptance of the private donation. Council members asked staff to include project details in the next regular packet and to confirm any remaining warranty and maintenance responsibilities.
The council did not direct additional repairs beyond those already completed. Staff will file final invoices and update the capital asset records.
