Charlotte County Electoral Board seeks new polling site for Bacon‑Saxe Precinct after inspection finds accessibility, safety problems

The Charlotte County Electoral Board said on April 1 that it must find a new polling location for the Bacon‑Saxe Precinct before the June 2020 election after a building inspector found multiple problems with the current site.
An inspection determined that the facility’s ramps are not in compliance (one ramp had previously received a waiver), the restrooms are functionally unusable, there is insufficient space to maintain mandated social distancing for the June election, and a significant termite infestation was discovered under the floor. New Hope Methodist rescinded an earlier offer to host the precinct, the board recorded.
Board members said they have approached Lebanon Methodist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church to ask whether those congregations would host the precinct, but the churches had not yet responded because of the restrictions on meetings related to the Coronavirus pandemic. Registrar Ms. Lambert told the Board she is in contact with her liaison at Elect so that relocation steps can proceed quickly when potential host sites reply.
The Board emphasized the need to arrange the relocation quickly to comply with applicable laws governing polling‑place moves. No final site was selected at the meeting.
The Board’s discussion is part of its preparation for the June election amid public‑health constraints; the Registrar separately reported operational adjustments and training changes elsewhere on the agenda.
