Houston County commissioners approve routine minutes, bills, procurement and local event grants

Key actions the court approved include: adopting the Feb. 10 minutes; paying accounts payable, fund transfers and ratifying salaries; receiving the Treasurer, compensatory and Tax Assessor/Collector reports; declaring certain county information and Kenworth truck parts surplus and authorizing disposition; renewing the AWOS maintenance contract at the county airport with DBT Transportation and Aviation Services; and approving the purchase of a 2016 Kenworth T800 for Precinct 2 from Vulcraft Carrier Corporation for $25,000 (with a necessary budget amendment).
The court also approved Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund applications totaling $7,000 for local events: $1,000 each for two Piney Woods Fine Arts/Ritz Theatre shows (Divas of Soul, March 6; Driving Miss Daisy, March 20), $2,000 for Downtown Crockett Association’s Camp Street Blues (April 24-25), and $3,000 for the Crockett Lions Club Rodeo (May 7-9). The court accepted a donation for the Houston County Child Welfare Board prom project and approved adding Texas Connect as an authorized investment option under the county’s investment policy. Commissioners received the Houston County Historical Commission’s 2025 annual report (Al Kreger) and noted a March 2 ceremony to unveil a Travis Letter plaque.
Elections Administrator Cindy Lum reported she has secured enough poll workers and raised the possibility of countywide voting in the future.
