Brooke County approves deputy hire, board appointment and in-house budget transfers

The Brooke County Commission on Nov. 26 approved a set of personnel and budget actions, including a hire in the sheriff’s office and several in-house transfers.
Commissioners unanimously approved Sheriff Beatty’s request to hire George Douglas as a full-time deputy. The minutes record Douglas as a certified officer with a start date of Dec. 1, 2024, and a starting pay rate of $26.35 per hour.
The Commission also approved in-house budget transfers recorded in the minutes: $42,022.20 to the All County Fire Fund and $57,279.19 to HAZ-MAT. Separately, the Commission approved All-County Fire Protection Fund disbursements to McKinleyville Volunteer Fire Department totaling $7,825.72 (a first allocation of $3,623.50 plus a second allocation of $4,202.22) to purchase four sets of turnout gear; the minutes note reimbursement is pending a cleared check.
On board business, the Commission received a letter from Chatman Neely saying he will not seek renewal of his Brooke Hills Park Board seat. Tim Ennis submitted a request for appointment to the Brooke Hills Park Board and was approved for appointment to the RT2/I-68 Authority Board after a phone endorsement from a representative identified as Mr. Miller, who said the board would be eager to have him join.
All motions on these items were moved by Commissioner Thomas R. Diserio, seconded by Commissioner Stacey Wise, and passed unanimously as recorded in the minutes. The meeting adjourned after the Commission completed its agenda.
