Brooke County Commission accepts EMS resignation, approves sheriff’s ‘State Clearing’ account and tables property fine

Commissioner Thomas R. Diserio moved and Commissioner Stacey Wise seconded a motion to approve the Jan. 7, 2025 minutes; the commission unanimously approved the minutes. The commission then unanimously accepted the resignation of Moriah Stewart from EMS, effective immediately.
The board unanimously approved a request from Sheriff Beatty to open a new “State Clearing” bank account, as recommended by the State Auditor’s Office. The account will be part of General County Fund #001, require three signatures, and be used to “sweep” Oasis deposits to their appropriate funds, the commission record states.
David Holden, Property Compliance Officer, gave an update on compliance efforts, saying “lots of positive production has been made.” Holden also asked the commission to implement a $100 daily fine for homeowner Margaret Spears (4703 & 4811 Eldersville Road, Colliers); after the commission learned the homeowner left a voicemail outlining planned progress, Commissioner Diserio moved, Commissioner Wise seconded, and the commission unanimously voted to table the fine to allow time for the homeowner to act.
Commissioner Wise moved and Commissioner Diserio seconded the reappointment of Terry Bonaventura to the Brooke County Public Service District board; the commission approved the reappointment unanimously. The commission also approved an ERB Electric Company quote for $736.00 to install a Cell Dialer fire panel at the EMS station.
The record notes that Sheriff Beatty has amended the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department towing policy; the amendment was referenced but the meeting record does not include the full policy text. The commission ordered that listed correspondences be filed in the County Clerk’s Office and approved invoices and vouchers, directing checks to be written for multiple funds (payroll withholdings $1,246.38; General County Fund #001 $22,627.23; Dog Fund #003 $508.84; Ambulance Service #025 $4,242.61; Shelter Levy #030 $3,902.60; Valuation #056 $4,795.08).
The commission announced the county courthouse will be closed Jan. 20, 2025, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, extended condolences to the family of Alberta Colley (who designed the Brooke County seal), and adjourned after a unanimous motion by Commissioner Diserio.
