Brooke County commission approves budget transfers, appointments and advertises for election clerk

At its Feb. 18 adjourned session, the Brooke County Commission unanimously approved a $56,041.86 in-house Courthouse budget transfer, a $1,180 sheriff refund, authorized election-clerk job advertising, received animal-shelter reports and made a park board appointment.
The Brooke County Commission met in adjourned session Feb. 18, 2025, and unanimously approved a series of routine budget and personnel items, appointed a new member to a local park board and noted a recent magistrate appointment.
Commissioner Thomas R. Diserio moved to approve an in-house Courthouse budget transfer of $56,041.86; Commissioner Stacey Wise seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The panel also approved a $1,180 refund to the Sheriff Law Enforcement budget on a motion by Commissioner Wise, seconded by Commissioner Diserio, which likewise passed unanimously.
County Clerk Kimberly M. Barbetta requested authority to advertise for an Election Clerk position; Commissioner Wise moved the authorization, Commissioner Diserio seconded, and the commission approved the request. The commission accepted the Brooke County Animal Shelter’s monthly reports covering June through December 2024 and placed a packet of correspondence on file.
David Holden, the county’s property compliance officer, gave an update that certified letters were sent to property owners including Aaron Kenefick of 324 Peacock Lane in Follansbee and two other letters served by the sheriff’s office; the commission thanked Holden for his work. On a motion by Commissioner Diserio, seconded by Commissioner Wise, the commission appointed Jesse Kreig to fill the unexpired term on the Brooke Hills Park Board through Jan. 1, 2026.
The minutes record that Sarah Delong has been appointed a Brooke County magistrate; commissioners spoke highly of her work in the Election Office and wished her well. The commission also acknowledged that Magistrate Shannon Price’s last day will be Feb. 28, 2025.
Commissioners approved invoices and vouchers and ordered the writing of checks across several funds, including General County Fund checks 32432–32451 for $57,685.90, Excess Levy checks 32452–32461 for $88,374.17 and Shelter Levy checks 2009–2013 for $32,684.13, among others listed in the meeting record. With no further business, Commissioner Stacey Wise moved to adjourn; the motion passed unanimously.
