Otoe County commissioners approve claims totaling $661,379 and sign several administrative motions

The claims list presented by the clerk showed Regular Claims of $317,689.38 and Payroll Claims of $343,689.87 for a Grand Total of $661,379.25. Major line items recorded on the claims list included Herbst Construction ($171,571.90) and Whetrock Inc ($19,076.51). The minutes list many other vendors and amounts as presented by the clerk.
The board approved a motion by Commissioner Freshman, seconded by Commissioner Cole, to terminate a shared service agreement with the law firm recorded in the minutes (Fankhauser, Nelson, Werts & Ziskey and Merwin, PC, LLO). That motion carried unanimously. The board also approved a motion by Commissioner Freshman, seconded by Commissioner Parsons, to terminate Otoe County’s obligation to pay rent claims between the Public Defender’s Office and Nelson Rentals; that motion carried unanimously.
Commissioner Cole moved and Commissioner Crownover seconded a motion authorizing the chairman to sign a release of assignment, assignment of lease and bill of sale related to the communication tower at 54th and M Road; the motion passed unanimously.
Representatives from the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District described proposed flood‑control work on the Johnson Road structure and said Otoe County’s contribution would be 25% of the cost to fix the issues. Commissioner Cole moved, Commissioner Parsons seconded, and the board agreed to a supplemental agreement with the NRD; the motion carried unanimously.
Brian Briley, the county’s Roads Lead Supervisor, presented the roads report; the minutes record the report but provide no further details. There was no public comment. Chairman Jerad Sornson declared the meeting adjourned at 9:28 a.m. The minutes record the next regular meeting is scheduled for March 10, 2026.
