Butler County Board approves additional NCIC terminal, equipment purchase, weed program evaluation and CAD interlocal with Fillmore County

The board voted to add a second NCIC terminal for the county's second dispatch station after 911 Coordinator Sharon Codr and Sheriff Tom Dion explained that a second terminal would help when multiple events occur simultaneously. The additional terminal increases monthly NCIC costs by $307.20, bringing the total to $844.80 per month; Sheriff Dion said the current fiscal-year budget can cover the remainder of the year and the county will pursue cost-sharing with the city next year. The motion to add the terminal passed 5-0 (Aye: Coufal, Vandenberg, Krafka, Griess, Steager).
Weed Superintendent Max Birkel presented the Nebraska Department of Agriculture's 2025 evaluation of Butler County's Noxious Weed Program, which reported no deficiencies and no open files. The board approved the evaluation and authorized Chairman Scott Steager to sign the report (vote 5-0).
Highway Superintendent Randy Isham presented two informal bids to replace and mount a steel box on a 2006 Mack gravel truck: Larsen International at $48,780 and Klute at $21,400. The board accepted Klute's $21,400 bid and directed the old aluminum box be brought back to be sold (vote 5-0).
County Clerk Lori Aschoff presented a CAD Interlocal agreement with Zuercher that now includes Fillmore County; the board approved the interlocal agreement unanimously (vote 5-0).
The board also approved a motion allowing Weed Superintendent Birkel to apply for a Nebraska Weed Association NAISMA Conference Assist Grant to offset travel costs for the NAISMA conference; if he is awarded the $1,000 assist grant, further approval will be required for out-of-state travel under the county's employee handbook (vote 5-0 to approve application).
The board discussed claims review procedures and designated Chairman Steager and Supervisor Scott Griess to review claims before the March 16 meeting. Other administrative items were recorded in the minutes, including correspondence and notes about recording meetings, which the board tabled pending further information on retention and costs.
