New Harmony council approves barn plans, appoints Peggy Steed and adopts retirement resolution

At its Feb. 4 meeting the New Harmony Town Council unanimously approved barn construction plans presented by Councilmember James Pace and accepted the Planning Commission candidate Peggy Steed.

Pace told the council the barn plans had been reviewed and approved by the Planning Commission; the council voted to accept the plans. The council also voted to appoint Peggy Steed to the Planning Commission; the motion to accept her appointment was made by Councilmember Pace and seconded by Councilmember Allan.

A speaker identified as Hecker presented a resolution for the record to clarify to the Utah Retirement Systems that New Harmony does not employ any full‑time town employees; the council voted unanimously to adopt that resolution.

In regular reports, Councilmember Travis Batty said a fence around the town’s water tanks has been installed but noted it was not quite what was expected; Mayor Prince said he will obtain locks for the tanks. Councilmember Allan reported that street lights are working and that one picnic table was stolen from the park; he plans to install tie‑downs. Diana Stiller said initial work on walking paths is beginning and that the town will be notified when surveys are ready. Mayor Prince said he attended a five‑county mayors meeting where county officials said they are pursuing repairs to State Route 114.

The council closed the meeting, entered a closed session for unspecified matters, reconvened briefly and adjourned at 8:55 p.m. All recorded motions were noted as unanimous in the minutes.
