Spencer County approves Annex restroom renovations and Annex floor work, orders bids for animal shelter roof and election‑storage door

The judge additionally requested and received approval to renovate two restrooms at the Annex — including vanities, flooring and painting — with reimbursement to follow; the court authorized up to $3,000 for the restrooms (motion by Esq. Travis; second by Esq. Brewer; unanimous).
Buildings & Grounds supervisor Randy Bush reported a leaking roof at the repair shop and issues at the Animal Shelter; magistrates agreed the shelter roof needed prompt attention and voted to advertise for bids for the repair (motion carried). The court discussed seeking energy‑conservation grants but moved to advertise for bids immediately to expedite repairs.
On election security, County Clerk Lynn Hesselbrock said Department of Homeland Security recommended cameras at the election equipment storage area and that she had obtained three bids. Discussion centered on whether to replace the overhead door before installing cameras; the court voted to advertise for bids to replace the door in the storage area (motion by Esq. Brewer; second by Esq. Travis; unanimous).
Other facility notes: AOC will be assessing the upstairs courtroom and will arrange camera installation for courthouse security; the judge said the county’s role would be to assist with logistics and site access while AOC manages procurement and installation for AOC‑funded items.
The court deferred action on inmate holding‑area bench installation until after an AOC security audit; bench quotes ranged from roughly $2,000 (local carpenter) to $4,000–$5,000 from other vendors.
