Spencer County Fiscal Court approved the purchase of a 2020 Ford Explorer for the Sheriff’s Office and accepted a vendor quote to outfit the vehicle with emergency equipment.
Magistrate J. Moody moved and Magistrate Travis seconded a motion to purchase one 2020 Ford Explorer from Bill Collins Ford at a county price of $34,133.20. The motion passed unanimously among those voting on the item.
The court also voted to accept an equipment quote from L & W Emergency Equipment totaling $7,758.45 to install a marked light bar, grille lights, headlight flashers, siren/speaker, a Jotto Desk console, a Setina partition and related wiring and installation for the newly purchased Explorer.
Sealed-bid results for sheriff radios (Kenwood offerings and state-contract pricing) and other sealed bids (J&N Electronics, Bill Collins Ford versus state contract options) were presented to the court. Magistrate Brewer said he was still researching the radio procurement and no award was made for that item at the meeting.
Why it matters: the vehicle and outfitting are intended for law-enforcement operations and represent a combined capital outlay and equipment expense the court must account for in the sheriff’s budget.
Next steps: county staff will complete procurement paperwork, receive and outfit the vehicle, and continue review of radio bids before making an award.
