A Bridging Kentucky notice included in the Spencer County Fiscal Court packet said the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will let the Featherbed Hollow Road bridge replacement (project 5-10026) for construction bids on July 26, 2019.
The notice described a full replacement of the existing bridge with a new structure immediately downstream, with the roadway approaches limited to what is necessary for new alignment; the existing bridge will remain open to traffic during construction and will be removed once the new span is opened. The Bridging Kentucky letter stated the project is intended to remove posting requirements and add roughly 75 years of life to the crossing.
The packet lists a KYTC contact as Royce Meredith, P.E., State Highway Engineer's Office, and a program team contact for Bridging Kentucky. The notice said no construction timetable had been set but that work was expected to begin quickly after a contract is executed; KYTC will provide additional project information when available.
