The City Council approved a conditional-use permit for a Town Pump convenience store that would include a casino at the former Flying J station at 6505 Jack Rabbit Lane, voting 5–1 to grant the request.
Senior planner Brad Stein explained the application before the council: "The request is for conditional use, again, to be a casino as part of the convenience store and gas station," and said the planning board recommended approval 3–1. Planner and staff records noted the proposed site would include a lounge and a deli component typical of other Town Pump stores; the applicant indicated the plan contemplates about 20 gaming machines.
Kevin May, the project engineer with Big Sky Civil and Environmental, answered technical and program questions; he confirmed there was currently no plan for a traditional sit-down restaurant and that the deli component (Stone Mill Deli) was proposed.
A motion to approve the conditional-use permit passed by voice vote and the mayor announced "Motion carries, 5 to 1." The council discussion included land-use compatibility, whether the proposal functioned like a truck stop and confirmation of the planned number of gaming machines.
